Ivan Dodovski,
Macedonia
Born in 1974 in Bitola.
Lives in Skopje.
He graduated high school in the USA and attended literature studies
at the University St. Cyril and Methodius in Skopje, Macedonia;
graduated at the Department of general and comparative literature
with American studies (1996); finished postgraduate studies at
the Department of Macedonian literature (1999). Currently, he
works on his postgraduate thesis Narrative Strategies in the Psychological
Novel.
He has published three poetry books: Sedenka so likot (Party with
the Image, 1991), Luda luna (Mad moon, 1995), Sveta ludost (Holly
Madness, 1999). His poems have been translated into English, Croatian,
and Romanian. Also, he has published about 20 literary critiques
and essays in several Macedonian magazines (Kulturen zivot, Stremez,
Lik…). Since 1994, he permanently writes theatre critiques.
He was a selector of the Macedonian Theatre Festival Vojdan Cernodrinski
in Prilep (1998), a mediator of its round table forum (1997, 1999),
and a member of the Festival’s jury (2000). He mediated the round
table forum of the Macedonian Chamber Theatre Festival Risto Siskov
in Strumica (1999). He was a president of the jury of the International
Theatre Festival MESS in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina (1999).
He participated in the International Forum of Theatre Critics
in Zagreb, Croatia, organised by the Croatian centre of the International
Theatre Institute – UNESCO (2000) and published an article on
contemporary Macedonian theatre in the year 2000 issue of The
World of Theatre. Twice he participated in the Meetings of Young
European Writers Pontes (1998, 1999). Also, he took part in several
Macedonian symposiums and festivals: Ratzin Meetings (1998), Struga
Poetry Evenings (1995), MTF Vojdan Cernodrinski symposium (1998,
1999, 2000).
Until June 2000 he has worked as an editor of culture in the Macedonian
students’ magazine Studentski zbor and as a freelance critic and
poet. Currently, he works as an arts & culture program coordinator
in the Foundation Open Society Institute – Macedonia.
